Mark Lakin is currently discussing the need for a set of safety stairs for the upper deck rescue of pax from an A380/747.  He believes Manchester Airport can meet the requierments without the need of stairs. No other aerodrome has this a prerequisite. Mark would be grateful for your views and opinions on how you would/do train for this eventuality.  Please contact Mark directly at mark.lakin@manairport.co.uk

Ray Oliver is putting together a presenation on CAP328 (MOR) and is seeking some help to produce a generic presentation that would be shared with AFOA on completion.  This subject was a recent audit item for London City Airport and may be of general interest to the industry.

A proposed EU Regulation states that halons in crash rescue vehicles must not be used in new equipment and new facilities for the application concerned after 31st December 2009.

By December 31st 2013 halons must not be used in existing equipment and facilities for the application concerned.  After this date the fire protection systems or fire extinguishers containing halons must be decommissioned. The two document links below may be useful for those still holding BCF stocks.

Newcastle Airport Fire Service has recently gained CAA approval to operate their own “in house” MOC scheme for Supervisors. In collaboration with Redkite Interactive Support Services and Newcastle Aviation Academy, who are also CAA Approved for Part 147, an extensive range of products have been designed to enable airports to achieve their own individual Maintenance of Competence schemes. These bespoke products can be delivered at Newcastle or at your airport (course dependant) As well as Fire Fighting a diverse range of associated aviation training is available, including Ground Operations, Airport Management and Security, which are all delivered to nationally recognised standards at various levels. An initial one day workshop is to be arranged where interested parties can gain a further insight into the variety of products available.
